October Contest Winner: Dale’s 1999 Suburban Passlock Fix
Our winner of a full refund for the month of October is Dale Novak from Tampa. He tells us the story of his 1999 Suburban and the dreaded security light. After returning from a three-month trip, he decided to get the Suburban back in action. Knowing the trip would be a long one, he had disconnected the battery to save it from dying while he was away. Unfortunately, after hooking the battery back up, the truck would not start. The SECURITY light was staring him in the face. He tried to reset the system multiple times, but it would not accept and relearn the code. The Passlock had failed, and so, it seemed, had his chances of driving the Suburban again. Here is Dale’s story in his own words.
A Failed Relearn After a Long Trip

βI spent countless hours online researching the problem and found out that I wasn’t alone. I watched videos and read old threads about how to bypass the system. I tried the βcheapβ way out with the resistor trick to no avail. I was getting extremely frustrated with the entire process. Reading the blogs, it seemed that folks who took their dead GM’s into the dealer just got a βparts swapβ that cost upwards of $2,000. Swapping out a defective system with the same defective engineering is no answer β the issue will eventually occur again since the systems are so prone to failure. I had seen some repair blogs that mentioned the system by NEWROCKIES. It seemed to be the answer. I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. I read every word on their website and just about every review. Given the money-back guarantee, I figured I had nothing to lose β and if it worked, I’d get my truck back on the road.β
βI purchased the PRO Module and paid extra for the USA-built module. I followed the install procedure to the letter. During the 30-minute relearn, I noticed that the security light went out just like the instructions detailed. I was very hopeful, since that was the first time the light had gone off! After the end of the relearn, and with much anticipation, I went for the start-up. Hurray! After countless hours trying everything I could find with zero results, my old 1999 Suburban fired up again! My wife even came running out of the house to hear the old workhorse running again. I can’t thank NEWROCKIES enough for engineering a rock-solid solution for the dreaded GM Passlock system.β
