Joseph’s 1998 Chevy Express: A Year of Parts, Solved Before Christmas
Joseph Kirk’s van is the only Chevy Express in our story archive, which matters because these vans are working vehicles: when a 1998 Express 2500 will not start, somebody’s livelihood is usually parked with it. He wrote to us from Easley, South Carolina in November 2016.
A year of fighting it
“Fighting for a year with my 98 Chevy Express 2500. Changing parts relearning the security code 30 mins over and over. Just to wake up and van not crank and run…. just shutting off. Pulled all my hair out.”
Every element of the standard ordeal is in those three lines: the parts that did not fix it, the 30 minute relearn ritual performed “over and over” because each relearn only teaches the system to accept a value that immediately resumes drifting, and the two-faced symptom, sometimes no crank, sometimes start-and-die.
The question he asked before buying
Before ordering, Joseph opened a ticket with two questions: how fast could it ship to South Carolina, and, in his words, “will there be a technical support telephone number just in case I needed help.” That is the question of a man who has been burned by a year of fixes that came with no backup. It is also the right question to ask any company before you buy, and we were glad to answer it.

Boom
“Finally ordered New Rockies and boom problem solved. Big bite out of wallet right before Christmas but worth it! Highly recommended!”
He did not need the phone number in the end. But knowing it existed is part of what let him place the order.
If you have one of these vans
A year of parts and relearns on a work van is a year of unreliable income, and that arithmetic is why “big bite out of wallet” still came out as “worth it” the week before Christmas. If your Express or Savana is doing what Joseph’s did, the NEWROCKIES PRO Module takes the security system out of the starting decision permanently. The wiring for these vans is here: 1998-2002 GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express installation guide.
