May Contest Winner: Jeffrey’s 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood No-Start Fix

This story comes to us from Jeffrey Aragon in New Mexico, about his 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood with a 350 engine. Like a lot of people, Jeffrey was skeptical and admits he was a little scared to purchase our PRO Module. He talked it over with his wife, and they decided that spending a bit more on this β€œlast-ditch effort” wasn’t so bad β€” they had already spent around $1,500 at the mechanic and dealership. The dealer even told him to scrap the car, since they don’t make the parts he needed anymore, and to try eBay instead. This was from an ASE-certified mechanic who had been doing this for 30 years.

A Dealer Told Him to Scrap It

β€œI will recommend it to everyone I see that has this problem. I even went back to the mechanic, he was dumbfounded. So thank you NEWROCKIES for your product.”

Why the Dealer Couldn’t Fix It

Jeffrey’s Fleetwood uses the same VATS-based Theft Deterrent Module (TDM) design GM put across its full-size RWD lineup in the early ’90s. The TDM is a function of the CCM (Central Control Module), located under the rear shelf in the trunk, and it works by checking a resistor pellet embedded in the ignition key against a value it expects. When that check fails intermittently β€” from a worn key, a flaky connector, or the module itself aging out β€” the TDM cuts fuel and disables the starter, and there’s no dashboard code that points straight at the cause. That’s exactly why Jeffrey’s ASE-certified mechanic wanted to replace the whole assembly rather than chase the fault: GM stopped stocking a lot of these VATS-era parts years ago, so β€œscrap it” was the only answer left inside the normal parts-and-labor system. The NEWROCKIES PRO Module works around that dead end entirely β€” it splices into the TDM/CCM wiring and permanently satisfies the resistor check, so the security system stops interfering with starting for good, with no obsolete-parts hunt required.

Jeffrey’s 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood shares its TDM/CCM hardware with the 1994 model year β€” if you’re working on one of these, the full wiring steps are in the 1993–1994 Cadillac Fleetwood installation guide.
