Why the PRO Module works and why it is the only acceptable solution?
The core of GM Security Systems is the engine immobilizer. It goes by many different names, like Passkey, VATS or Passlock etc. depending on the car manufacturer that is installing them and on a number of small variants.
These systems only have 3 components, but those components together can cost you more than $1,000 at the dealer to replace. They are:
- Key (with Chip) – $80 to replace
- Lock Cylinder (with sensor) – $350 to replace
- Theft Deterrent or Body Control Module (TDM or BCM or by other names) – $700 to replace
Where things go wrong
Due to this simplicity, there are only 3 things that can fail – and each of them tends to last no more than 7 years, often much less. If only ONE part of that system goes down, the car will either not start or it will start but die in a matter of seconds.
Every GM security system works on this one simple principle: The Key/Lock component sends an input signal to the TDM/BCM through the wiring. When the TDM gets the right input signal, it produces an output signal that allows the engine to start. That’s all it does.
Why the Resistor Trick or other Bypass Kits DO NOT Work
Because the Resistor is NOT a Passlock Bypass! It is a key bypass. Its focus is on the input signal – It only tricks the TDM into thinking the right key is in the lock cylinder. It is partial.
This doesn’t work and it CANNOT be a permanent solution because you’re still stuck relying on the TDM – the brain of the system – the most complex and the most vulnerable part, the time-bomb that in all cases, often sooner than later, becomes the real cause of the no-start issue.
Why the NEWROCKIES Inc PRO Passlock Bypass DOES Work – Permanently
While GM kept focusing on the input signal as the years went by, they totally forgot about the output signal. So – no matter the make and model of your GM car or the type of security system, the output signal remained the same.
We take advantage of this by reproducing that signal with the PRO Module – a FULL Passlock Bypass – that enables your injectors without VATS, Passkey, or Passlock.
Fully Bypass Passlock by Taking the TDM out of the Loop
As we explained, the other so-called solutions still depend on the TDM to produce the proper output signal in response to their input signal – and that’s a bad idea, because the TDM is the weakest link AND the most expensive part of the system.
The PRO Module is a FULL Passlock Bypass Module instead that goes right to the heart of the problem and solves it by reproducing the proper output signal that the PCM (onboard computer) uses to enable the fuel injectors. This means you can disable and often remove the ENTIRE immobilizer system from your car, to plague you no more!

He or she will buy a kit called a Passlock Bypass, think they’re solving the problem, and their car still won’t start or it will start just for a couple of days. Then begins the expensive parts swapping game that empties wallets and lands perfectly good GM cars in the junkyard. I went down this road myself – but fortunately I just kept having this nagging feelings in my gut about the security system. I wire in the module in my Tahoe and no success. Working with Jack in NEWROCKIES Technical Support, I double check all wires against the diagram, everything is matching. The PRO Module doesn't even turn on.

From Dead on Monday to Racing on Saturday

"i have a 1995 caprice wagon cop car, i need to bypass my passkey ( or lack thereof) i have no pellet in the key & the module is behind the headlight switch & was manufactured by mallory […] as if this could happen @ a better time i’m supposed to race it this saturday. HELP!!! […] can i bypass this???? it is putting a big damper on my participation in the race!!! & i planned on winning!!"
We were very happy to let Jimbo know right away that the Newrockies PRO Module would indeed fix the problem, and informed him that if he placed his order right away, we would ship him the module the next morning.
Time Runs Out!
Unfortunately Jimbo wasn’t able to check his email until Tuesday night, and at that point he sent us another anxious message:
"thanx very much for the quick response i am wondering how long it will take to get here […] it is 6.30pm right now i will check my email before the night ends & if we can have it here by friday (it’s tuesday) i will order tonite & thank you in advance!!! i’ve been pulling my hair out!!!"
Jimbo placed his order that night, on the expectation that delivery would take 1-2 days. On Wednesday he emailed us again to make sure that we had shipped the product, and we sent him back the tracking information. On Thursday morning Jimbo received the package. He was quite excited, and he made sure to let us know:
"thanx so much!!!!! i’ll send some pics of the race car. i’m installing it in & will tell all my friends of your fix for the achilles heel!!!!!"
A Moment of Panic
Unfortunately, by Thursday night things weren’t looking so rosy for Jimbo:
"i installed the PRO on my 1995 caprice classic. it still starts & stalls. i need some help. i removed & flipped the switches & re-installed pro & still nothing, vin#************594. On my TDM there was no A4 pin with yellow black stripe wire & no wire at all. My wires in the connector are as follows:
A1- orange. A2- pink. A3- blue (dk). B5-black white stripe. B7 & B8 white, black stripe & looped."
We quickly realized that Jimbo might be stuck with some sort of custom setup, and responded to him that same night:
"Jim, it is ok, if you don’t have an A4. Looks like in the police cars they might have shorted the starter enable relay so its wire is not run to the TDM module. Make sure the original module is unplugged and remains unplugged when you install our PRO module. Our module replaces the TDM.
If installation at TDM doesn’t work, you might have a problem in the wiring to the ECM. If this is the case, installing at the ECM directly (option 2) will work well. Again, make sure the TDM remains unplugged."
And we exchanged a couple more short emails that night, to help Jimbo nail down some details. He wrote to us:
"although i haven’t completed the installation (late & my young son is sleeping so i can’t “fire it up” until the am) this is by far the best interaction with customer service EVER encountered!!
thanx again."

By morning , we were a bit anxious because we hadn’t heard back from Jim and the race was the following day, so we just asked how things were going, and we were left biting our nails until Friday night, when Jim answered us:
"oh yeah IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sorry i didn’t get back to you earlier been busy doing final prep on the race car. again your company’s tech support is the best i’ve ever dealt with and the response time is the crown. so many times customers are left “holding the ball” but with you i was given all the help i needed and believe me i did need it… if the time & money i have in this car left me with a no start condition on the race track my wife probably woulda killed me!!!

Our 2006 Colorado had start up issues and we kept ignoring it; and then I got fed up, and did some research.
