Our monthly contest winner for December is Mark Gilmore and his Suburban. He tells us the story of his Suburban with 130,000 miles on it. After spending money on a transmission swap and an expensive Dual AC fix… the decision was made to keep the truck forever and run it until it was dead. This sounds like a great plan and you know we’ve all been in THAT situation before. Sometimes you have enough money into it, that you can’t bail out if you wanted to. So everything was going fine until the dreaded Security light popped on, the truck failed to start, and the mechanic wanted $700 to fix it. So instead of adding another huge pile of money to the list, Mark took it upon himself to surf the web and look for the answer. He found it in NEWROCKIES Inc. and the PRO Module. Here is his story in his own words.
I knew that this was the right product to solve my problem, but I had to fight with my Suburban to prove it!
My suburban has 130,000 miles and has been very reliable with only one major repair several years ago. We had to rebuild the transmission a few years back. Recently, our dual A/C had to be replaced and since it was an expensive repair we decided that we were going to try and drive this vehicle it until it was done. Gradually, the ignition started acting up. The first time I would turn the key to start it nothing would happen. Turn it off and try again and it would start every time. Then one day it started and immediately died and the security light was flashing. Oh no – the GM Passlock system had taken over my vehicle and my mechanic wanted $700 to fix it! I searched the internet and found exactly what I needed – a way to permanently disable and override the GM Security system. The Newrockies PRO Bypass module was just the ticket so I quickly placed my order. While I was waiting for delivery, I went to the documentation section and printed the instructions so I would be ready for the install. As simple as it looked I knew I wouldn’t have time to do the install myself, so I asked my mechanic to install it for me. He got it done and I thought I was ready to go until I got home and tried starting it up several times just to make sure it was working. On the third try, it failed to start. I worked with the Newrockies support team and was able to troubleshoot my installation. I’m a novice, so it took me a while to finally reach the point where the technician told me that if everything was plugged in then my Suburban EVO module had failed. Plugged in?, I said to myself. Somehow, the wiring harness had fallen out of the EVO module. No wonder it didn’t work! Of course, by now I had killed my battery so I had to take it to the auto parts store to get it recharged. After putting the battery back into the vehicle, I plugged the harness into the EVO and it started right up! What a relief. It’s now been two weeks and it starts the first time and stays running. Thank you NEWROCKIES for all of your support!
